A long evening starts off with Golden's recent accomplishment: A Black Belt in TaeKwonDo! But after that it's nearly all about three trips Rylan had over the last month. The first trip was a cub scout camping trip that Rylan's whole family went on, including Karen. This is the first time she's been camping with Rylan and she had such a good time she is making plans for a family camping trip to a state park at a local lake.
Rylan is helping a boy scout troop prep for a hike at Philmont this summer. They meet at the coliseum at 5am three times each week and hike the stairs like Rylan & Golden did when prepping for a Grand Canyon hike ten years earlier. On a practice hike one dad made the statement that he could already tell the difference with his legs. The group also made the discovery to put someone who is slowing down in the lead and let them set the pace. There must be something psychological about "having" to keep up as opposed to just walking your own pace because once he was leading the group sped up.
The final trip was a recruiting trip where the boy scout troop took Rylan's Webelos for an overnighter on an island on a local lake. The boys canoed out and camped and Rylan's oldest son went along. They both had an excellent time and both slept in hammocks under one big tarp.
Golden wraps things up with a new tough camera he recently purchased. It's the Olympus Tough Camera which can be dropped, it can get wet and functions down in really low temps. Sounds like the perfect camera for some of their hikes.
Enjoy The Trail!
