Jumping into the world of Alcohol PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jason Bryan

Just got my first adventure into the world of alcohol burning stoves. I have previously been using a MSR Pocket Rocket. I ordered my Solo UCAB on 6/29/09 and got it 7/6/09. That was one “Speedy Delivery.” My first impression was “Wow that sure is small.” And after weighing it, it is really small and light weight. This system seems to be well suited for preparing dehydrated meals, soups, and hot drinks. You might be able to use it in a double boiler situation, but I will have to try that out later. It only took about ½ oz. of fuel to boil 2 cups of water, so you would probably need no more than 1 to 1.5 oz a day out in the woods. The fuel he recommends, Heet, is only $2 for 12oz at the automotive store. Tinny has many other designs that he has on his website Mini Bull Designs.

I like the solo a lot. Currently have the Bongo and Duo as well .... both a bit faster and 1/2 to 3/4 oz of fuel used for 2 cup. My favorite is still the Mini-Atomic but it does take a wee prime.
Congrats on your new stove adventures. Alcohol stoves have "personalities" and that makes my camp time fun
All secure in sector seven,

First time i've ever seen a stove with a hose like that before, nice! Keep tinkering, the great thing about these alky's is you can make them exactly the way you want.

WHOOOOO! I see your using the same bowl/cup setup as me with the plastic blue lid bowl, I love those, they are cheap and work great! They sometimes warp with hot liquids, but always come back. They are sturdy enough not to be punctured and can take years of abuse. Love em love em love em!
