69 - Down and Hammocks PDF Print E-mail

This episode finds Rylan and James continuing their discussion about gear.  Rylan has revamped lots of his gear since moving to a hammock and James has been a source of great knowledge guiding Rylan's purchases.  Moving to down was a little fearful for Rylan.  He discusses this and the fact that he never got his synthetic bag wet so down really shouldn't be a problem!

Hammock talk comes up many times along with underquilts.  They discussed a few different types of water treatment they've used and Rylan brought up these excellent kids water bottles he recently purchased for his children.

James' blog is here.  He posts regularly and in great detail about hiking gear.  This weeks album art was sent to us by Mr. Gadgets.  He joined us for a few days on the last hike in Virginia and we got to check out his hanging gear!

Enjoy The Trail!

I'm not sure if or when Golden will be back. I'm continuing the podcast cause I have fun with it but if it turns to junk I'll throw it overboard Wink

Hey Rylan, Ritz here. As a fellow hanger, I'm really curious about the album art...Is that a fence around Mr. Gadgets' setup? What's the story behind that? Keep up the great show! Peace.

Bear fence

I have used the bear fence on several long hikes. I bought the fence for my son-in-law who is deathly afraid of bears but likes to hike. It really carries a hefty jolt much like the electric fences around cattle ranches. I believe it really works and the next hike my SIL goes on a hike with me he will more than gladly carry the extra 3 pounds it weighs.

Just don't stagger into the fence at night when you get up to take a leak. Surprised

Jolly Green Giant
After listening to this a couple things are clear. First, I think I'm going to send a limo or taxi to get you to VA again as we need to hit the trail some more. These podcasts make me miss it and make me further consider section hiking the whole AT. Secondly, thanks for helping me realize poor audio on my end only accentuates my nasally tone and seemingly drunken slurring of words. Now that's enticing. My wife concurred which leaves me wondering if it isn’t my looks, my brain, or my soothing conversation, what does she possibly see in me? I mean eating my weight at a buffet probably only impresses me.
Limo??? ::: perk ::::

Whoa sweetie don't crap on my limo! Anybody sends me a limo and I'm their hiking buddy! When do we get started?
Limo

The size of Rylan's backpack could easily hold a limo, next to his umbrella.
